Goldsmiths cultural studies graduate pursuing career in social enterprise through literary arts, Carnival arts , performance and education.Professional communicator with high level of creative intelligence, experienced in theater directing, arts education, youth literacy, community development and event management. Devoted, resourceful worker, collaborates well with colleagues and widely diverse public. Proficient in most Microsoft Office applications, Cloud applications and basic video editing software. Conversant in Spanish and moderately proficient in French. Familiar with social media marketing via Facebook, Instagram, Whats App etc.

Work Experience

 

Performance Poet June 2006- Present

  • Wordsmiths Poetry Slam Team, representing Trinidad and Tobago at the International Brave New Voices Poetry Slam Festival in 2008, 2009 and seasonal staff member of the facilitating organization- Youth Speaks in San Francisco, California from 2011-2014.

  • Member of the Brooklyn College Poetry Slam Team ranking 2nd in America in 2013.

  • Featured at several poetry events across the USA  and United Kingdom (often upon the invitation of non-profit organizations and colleges). Of these include Columbia University, The Brooklyn Museum, The Cheltenham Literature Festival, The Poetry Society ( London)  and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

The 2 Cents Movement

Artistic Director March 2015-Sept 2016

  • Coordinating and curating the artistic content for all major projects including two country-wide school tours, national poetry slams and commissioned corporate work across Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Overseeing the creation and development of after-school programming in poetry writing and performance for multiple sites nationwide.

  • Managing the communications of the organization: grant writing, press releases, proofreading etc.

The Brooklyn College Community Partnership

Teaching Artist September 2014- Feb 2015

​

  • Organizing and facilitating after-school activities using poetry and theater to encourage civic engagement and ethnographic writing among high school youth in East New York, Brooklyn.

  • Mentoring 60 teenage students, coordinating field trips to art and performance venues, providing college and employment preparation support.

Brooklyn College- College Now

Teaching Assistant (Theater) February 2011- Dec 2014

​

  • Planned lessons, arranged classes and organized reading materials for college-level introductory theater classes with 25 high school students each semester, during the school year.

  • Mentored students and co-facilitated classroom activities including acting techniques/exercises, discussions on classroom topics and writing exercises.

  • Chaperoned and facilitated more than 20 day trips to local theaters to view live performances.
